日本はブログ大国なんだそうです。日本語を解する人が世界中にどのくらいいるか知りませんが、全世界のブログに占める「日本語で書かれたブログ」の割合は驚くほど多いんだとか。そしてその内容も他国とは少し異なるようで「個人ジャーナル」や「評論」的な内容が多い外国のブログに比べ、日本ではいわゆる「日記」が大半を占めている‥‥なんて記事を読んだ事もあります。その真偽についてはとりあえず置いておくとして、ブログが日本人の暮らしにすっかり定着・浸透した事は確かでしょう。
もし突然、あなたの使っているブログ・サービスが「来週から20字を超える記事が投稿できなくなります」と言い出したらどうします？ 仕方ないから「20字日記」に挑戦します？ それとも他のブログ・サービスに引っ越します？ ま「20字制限」は大袈裟だとしても、実はあるブログ・サービスで似たような事が起こりました。アップロードできるデータのサイズが40MBから１MBに減らされる事になったんです。普通にテキストブログを書いているユーザーなら１MBもあれば充分なので全然問題ないんですが、それがポッドキャストを売りにしていたブログ・サービスだったからもう大騒ぎです。
特に多くのリスナーを抱える人気ポッドキャスターにとっては頭の痛い問題でしょう。他所のサーバーにアップした音声にリンクを張って、今までと同じ場所で配信を続けるか、完全に引っ越すか‥‥でも引っ越すとなれば、膨大な量の音声ファイルを移動しなければならないし、リスナーにポッドキャスト登録をし直してもらわなければならないし、それまで積み重ねてきた実績（ダウンロード数や人気ランキングなど）を手放す覚悟が必要となる場合もあるでしょう。
今回の仕様変更で、おそらく多くの難民ポッドキャスターが生まれるでしょう。幸い僕はそのブログ・サービスを使っていなかったんですが、決して「対岸の火事」ではありません。難民たちが流れ着いた先では「新たな負荷」が生まれるでしょうし、ネガティヴな見方をすれば「ドミノ倒し」が起こる可能性だって大いにあります。
