予約申し込みから半年‥‥遂に来ました「Pro Tools First」が。Avid からリリースされているプロ用の録音・編集アプリケーション「Pro Tools」の無料版です。「Pro Tools」といえば、世界中の録音スタジオで今やスタンダードとなっている、いわば音楽制作の中核に鎮座する定番中の定番システムなんですが、ついに我々のようなアマチュア･ポッドキャスターの手に届く場所に下りてきてくれた気前の良さには、わたくし興奮を禁じ得ません。早い人だと既に１ヶ月ぐらい前に「ダウンロードできるよ」というメールが届いていたようですが、僕のところには本日やっと‥‥であります。というワケで早速ダウンロードして起動♪
Mac の OS がまだ８とか９だった頃、この「Pro Tools First」同様、無料で使える「Pro Tools FREE」というアプリケーションが配布されており、ネットラジオの編集に少しだけ使っていた時期があったんですが、僕にとっては実に11年ぶりの「Pro Tools」であります。起動が完了すると、テンプレートらしきものが表示されました。音楽ジャンルがいくつか並んでいますが、なんとそこには「Podcasting」という項目が！
とりあえず僕は、このアプリケーションをポッドキャストの録音・編集にしか使う予定がないので、迷わず「Podcasting」を選択。するとこんな状態で作業場が開きました。
むかし使っていた「Pro Tools FREE」に比べると、ユーザー･インターフェイスがかなり洗練された印象です。そしてしっかり日本語表示♪
「Podcasting」用のテンプレートには、あらかじめ音楽用のトラックが２つと、トーク用のトラックが３つ用意されているようです。
僕がポッドキャストを始めてからの10年、番組の録音と編集にはずっと Apple 純正の GarageBand を使ってきたので、この縦に動かすフェーダーが懐かしくもあり新鮮でもあります。
「Pro Tools First」は、クラウドと連携しての作業ができるようなんですが、さすがに無料版という事もあり、いくつかの機能が制限されているようです。何しろすっかりガレバンに慣れきってしまいましたし、昔使っていた「Pro Tools FREE」の使い方も完全に忘れちゃってるので、今すぐ GarageBand からコレに移行するのは難しいかもしれませんが、ボチボチ弄りながら少しずつ馴染んでいこうかな‥‥と思っています。

I have been using Apple's genuine GarageBand for recording and editing programs for ten years since I started podcasting, so this fader that moves vertically is nostalgic and fresh.
"Pro Tools First" seems to work in conjunction with the cloud, but it seems that there are some restrictions as there are things called free version as expected. After all I got accustomed to Galleban completely and I completely forgot how to use "Pro Tools FREE" I used before, so it may be difficult to switch from GarageBand right now, but it is funny I am thinking that I will become familiar little by little while I am doing it.
