ポッドキャスターの中には「GarageBand（通称ガレバン）を使ってみたくて Mac を買った」という人が結構いらっしゃるようです。もともとは手軽に音楽を作るためのアプリケーションですが、ポッドキャストの録音・編集用のソフトとしての実力も立派なもんです。
僕も番組の編集にはずっとこれを使ってきました。でも、ちょっと面倒くさい部分があったんです。ポッドキャスト配信用の音声ファイルは、最終的に「MP3」というファイル形式にしてブログにアップする必要があるんですが、ガレバンには MP3 を吐き出す機能がなかったんです。なので今までは一旦ガレバンから非圧縮ファイルを書き出し、それを iTunes で MP3 に変換していました。
ところが、最新ヴァージョンの「Garageband'08」を使ってみて気づいたんですが、なんと MP3 で書き出せるようになってるじゃないですか！ 素晴らしい♪ ガレバンの「共有」から「曲をディスクに書き出し」を選んで MP3 で書き出せば iTunes いらずでそのままアップロードできますし「iTunes に曲を送信」を選べば、希望のファイル形式で直接 iTunes に放り込む事もできます。
さらに驚いた事に‥‥書き出しの際、自動的にノーマライズしてくれてます！ 「ノーマライズ」を超大雑把に説明しますと「音量を大きくしてくれる」機能です。ポッドキャスト番組を聴いていて「あ、この番組は他の番組に比べていつも音が小さいぞ」と感じる事はないでしょうか？ 音楽や放送のプロの現場では、コンプレッサーを使って音を圧縮するのが常套手段となっています。圧縮する事で音圧が上がり、迫力が増すんです。本来はポッドキャスト用の音声ファイルを作る際も、コンプレッサーを上手に使えば、より聴きやすく、そしてガッツのある音に仕上げる事ができるんですが「そんな面倒で小難しい事やってられっか！」って方も多いでしょう。そんな時にこのガレバンの「ノーマライズ」がチョッピリ効いてくるんです。いやぁ、ガレバンさんも地味に、そして着実に進化してますね。
